Dr. Prabhakar Kore is a global visionary whose transformative impact on the landscape of education and healthcare has transcended national boundaries. Serving as the Chairman of the KLE Society from 1984 to 2026, he spearheaded an unprecedented era of expansion, growing the organization from 38 to 318 institutions. Today, he continues to steer this mission as the Chancellor of the KLE Academy of Higher Education & Research (KAHER), Belagavi, and KLE Technological University, Hubballi.
Dr. Kore's philosophy centers on bringing world-class infrastructure and professional education to the grassroots level. Under his leadership, nearly 50% of KLE's institutions have been strategically established in rural and semi-urban regions to ensure that geography never limits potential. He established state-of-the-art institutions, including English Medium Schools, collegiate institutions, health sciences and allied institutions, engineering colleges, polytechnics, management institutions, law colleges, etc in these regions. KLEs commitment to the agrarian sector led to the creation of the KLE College of Agricultural Sciences to promote scientific farming as a viable career for rural youth. He has constantly strived towards bridging the digital and academic divide by providing these regions with high-caliber infrastructure typically reserved for metropolitan cities.
Dr. Kore has revolutionized healthcare accessibility in North Karnataka. He established a state-of-the-art 2,400-bed Hospital & Medical Research Centre in Belagavi, which in addition to providing super specialty and organ transplant services, serves approximately 9 lakh outpatients annually. To address a critical regional need, he founded an ultra-modern 300-bed Cancer Hospital in Belagavi, ensuring advanced oncology treatment is accessible to the local population. Under his leadership, KLE has established a 1000 beds hospital at Hubballi and hospitals at Chikodi, Gokak, Ankola, Yelur, Basavana Kudachi, Patne Phata, and Pune. Furthermore, he established a state-of-the-art Research Centre at the KAHER campus to provide impetus to medicine, pharmacy, and biotechnology. He placed KLE on the global map through the JNMC Women's and Children's Health Research Unit, which is a recognized WHO collaborating centre and works as part of a global network with the NIH (USA), World Health Organization, Gates Foundation, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), King's College London, etc for path-breaking research in maternal and newborn health.
In honor of his monumental contributions, Dr. Kore was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors and Karnatak Rajyotsava award. He also has Honorary Doctorates from Karnatak University Dharwad and Rani Chennamma University. His global impact is highlighted by being only the second Indian, after Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, to receive an Honorary Doctorate from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has also been conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Science by Thomas Jefferson University, the first Indian to receive this distinction.
Along with an illustrious career as a three term Rajya Sabha Member and a leader of the cooperative movement in India, Dr Kore through his visionary leadership, has placed KLE Society on the global map through effort and innovation.
